One aspect of runDisney that makes the races so magical is the tradition of runners showing off their best Disney-inspired running costumes on the course. Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend celebrates the culinary moments from your favorite films and park moments so you will see plenty of callbacks to chefs and foods. My favorite look I saw from this weekend was an EPCOT trashcan garnished with a tablecloth (iykyk). Whatever route you take, you may be looking for some culinary inspiration for your next runDisney race. Don your aprons, and check out my chef-inspired looks for the 2024 Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend at Walt Disney World.

Here is a breakdown of the looks I wore during the 2024 Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend. For each look, I have linked the various items I wore or used to create my running outfit. Many of the pieces I purchased from my favorite luxury athletic wear company, Crowned Athletics. You can use my code MORGSMAGIC for discount on your next order.
Chef Kronk Running Costume - runDisney 2024 Wine & Dine 5K

PULL THE LEVER! The 5K distance is typically the time for elaborate costumes to shine as the distance is relatively short, and there is no timing requirement. If there was an event to throw on a wig and oven mitts, this was it. All my costumes were inspired by chef moments from Disney and Disney Parks. I chose to hone in on a very specific scene from one of my favorites, Disney's The Emperor's New Groove, where Kronk cooks his famous spinach puffs right before Kuzco is poisoned and transformed into a llama.

As a base for my Kronk costume, I procured a Kronk shirt from Etsy and grabbed my light purple skort from Crowned Athletics to round out his outfit. Ironically, I could reuse the short black wig I purchased for my Kuzco costume and add his comically dainty hat that I designed and 3D printed myself to Kronk-ify it. From Amazon, I purchased a set of oven mitts and an apron to mimic the chef scene. I did significantly hem the apron so it showed the light purple of the skort and not brush my legs while running. The piece de resistance was the spinach puff dish I modeled, printed, and painted by hand. For functionality, I repurposed a carabiner to attach the mitts to my apron while not in use and threaded a loop of velcro underneath the spinach puff prop to tighten on the oven mitt itself rather than have to hold it freely.
Princess Tiana Running Costume - runDisney 2024 Wine & Dine 10K

The 10K Race host for Wine & Dine Weekend was Tiana and her man-catching beignets, which, funny enough, I saw many runners dressed as. Originally, I had a Dole Whip ensemble planned out, but I didn't love how it was coming together, so I pivoted and decided to keep it simple with my Tiana-inspired athletic wear. This outfit was straightforward, using pieces from the Crowned Athletics Lily Pad Princess Collection and a headband I had already made for a cruise with fabric scraps around my house to create a Princess Tiana look. For good measure, I doused myself with Unicorn Snot's Original Glitter Gel to sparkle like a princess.
Chef Minnie - runDisney 2024 Wine & Dine Half Marathon

My third and final costume was a recreation of Chef Minnie's outfit that she wears at Chef's Mickey, a character dining meal located inside Disney's Contemporary Resort. This one required the most outfitting. From Amazon, I purchased a chef hat, apron, and chef coat before sewing on various fabrics I procured at my local craft store to match the detailing on her outfit. Touching upon the chef's coat, I added trim to the sleeves and down the center of the shirt and swapped out the buttons for red ones. The ascot and overskirt I made from scratch with fabric I had. Both were straightforward and didn't require any patterns. I loved how it turned out, and this outfit was by far the most accurate I have made to date. One tip I would suggest is if you are going to be using a chef coat for any running costume, wear a tight, comfortable running shirt underneath to prevent unwanted chafing.
